Pictures of Dataran Pahlawan Megamall

October 22nd, 2006

Almost a month ago, I’ve posted a few pictures taken on the night before opening of Dataran Pahlawan Megamall. In the previous post, I’ve also briefly introduced the ambitious plans laid out for Dataran Pahlawan project. Since the presence of this new attraction is Melaka in quite significant, and everyday this site has got a number of visitors coming in via various web search for Dataran Pahlawan, thus I’ve decided to post up more pictures to fulfill my readers’ visual satisfaction haha :D

The current DeepaRaya festive season is a good time for photography, as it looks happening everywhere haha. All the following pictures are taken on 21st Oct, the Deepavali night.

Due to the almost-a-week of festive season, Bandar Hilir - the place where Mahkota Parade and Dataran Pahlawan are located, is full of crowd and traffic. It was pretty hard to get a parking slot along the main road, but luckily I did.

Takraw-Like Corridor Lamps at Dataran Pahlawan Megamall

There are a number of unique Takraw-like corridor lamps at Dataran Pahlawan. But, they were not lightening up. Probably the wiring work is not yet completed.

Combination of Staircase and Wheelchair Stairway at Dataran Pahlawan Megamall Entrance

At the main entrance of Dataran Pahlawan Megamall, I personally find this stairway design to be a little bit weird. It’s a good effort that Dataran Pahlawan management actually taken into consideration the accessible building design for the wheelchair and baby-chair users, by laying out a Z-style wheelchair stairway. BUT, the design is weird, as this Z-style sloping stairway is actually incorporated together with a normal staircase, spanning across the steps diagonally. If the walking visitors are not paying attention on the steps, he/she might be easily falling down, due to the unequal depth.

Besides, the floor finishing of the sloping stairway ought to be more slip-resistant to prevent unwanted accidents.

Inside Dataran Pahlawan Megamall

Inside Dataran Pahalwan Megamall, the outlets in ground floor are mostly occupied, with dominated with fashion and apparel sector.

Malaysia's Vision 2020 Time Capsule in Dataran Pahlawan Megamall

At present, there’s nothing much attractive for photograph shooting at Dataran Pahlawan yet. But, I’m glad that when I saw the re-furnished Malaysia’s Vision 2020 Time Capsule. The main hibiscus-like Time Capsule remains its physical appearance as it was before. However, there’s an addition of fountain and wall sculptures now.

Due to Deepavali celebration, a rangoli painting made with motif of Dataran Pahlawan logo was laid on the floor.

    LocalBus,

None of the maps posted here has included the exact landmark for Dataran Pahlawan Megamall.

However, you can refer to the Melaka Chinatown map, and take a look at the bottom left corner. You will see a direction written as “To Mahkota Parade, Dataran Pahlawan, Mahkota Hospital, Mahkota Hotel, Equatorial Hotel, Bandar Hilir, Melaka Raya”. Just follow the direction shown will do. Dataran Pahlawan is just 2 minutes drive from The Stadthuys.

No, there’s no nice food at Dataran Pahlawan Megamall hehe. However, the Newton Culture Food Village situated diagonally opposite Dataran Pahlawan is almost completed. I have no idea when will this food village start its operation though

Construction of Phse 2 where Carrefour will be there is very slow. Went there about 6.30pm, and saw construction work still being carried out. Well, at least we can see there’s a progress.
Heard TGV might be there, not quite sure.

Dataran Pahlawan Melaka Megamall was a great shopping heaven isnt it? I can see there was jammed along the Jalan Merdeka so often. Wondering if there still vacant for business,is worth to invest over there.

Thanks admin… will visit the state very soon…

one more thing… if i stay in City Bayview(is it a nice hotel ?)…. will it be walking distance to go for the jonker walk pasar malam there ?

the pasar malam only on saturday nite ?

    Thanks so much…

  • 7. Administrator | March 3rd, 2007 at 9:18 pm

City Bayview Hotel is good. Though it’s located relatively near to Jonker Walk, easily accessible within 5-7 minutes driving distance, but I don’t agree it’s near in terms of walking distance though hehe.

Jonker Walk is operating on every Friday, Saturday and Sunday, from 5PM to about 11PM. However, quite a number of the stalls might not be ready for business until 7PM.

Oh ok.. thank you so much.. how bout nicer hotel in walking distant to jonker walk ?

    is renaissance nearer ? thanks…

  • 9. Administrator | March 3rd, 2007 at 11:25 pm

Nop, Renaissance Hotel Melaka is only slightly nearer to Jonker Walk than City Bayview Hotel in walking distance. In fact, Renaissance Hotel Melaka and City Bayview Hotel are both very near to each other :)

The nearest hotel to Jonker Walk which worths a mention, is Hotel Puri. Jonker Walk is only a stone-throw away from Hotel Puri. Besides, a lot of other popular heritage attractions are also easily accessible from Hotel Puri within walking distance.

  • 10. LocalBus | March 8th, 2007 at 10:06 am

oh… thanks.. i was looking for a ‘bigger’ hotel… Puri is nice but more like a heritage hotel… not sure if the others will like it.

How bout a map to the famous and better satay celup ? :)

  • 12. Administrator | May 7th, 2007 at 8:37 pm

    manchuria:
Well, whether it’s worth visiting or not, is kind of a subjective query :)

Since Dataran Pahlawan is located right in the tourism attractions area, no harm giving a visit, since you will most probably be passing by this complex.

  • 20. Administrator | January 27th, 2008 at 11:34 am

No, at present there are only 2 cinemas in Melaka - GSC in Mahkota Parade, and MBO in Melaka Mall

  • 21. luna lovegood | February 15th, 2008 at 9:41 pm

but in the GSC website it said there a cinema at dataran pahlawan melaka which one is true?

  • 22. Administrator | February 17th, 2008 at 3:49 pm

GSC Cinema will be opening soon in Dataran Pahlawan. But, as of this moment, it has yet to start its operation.

That’s why we still can’t make ticket reservation for Dataran Pahlawan GSC at GSC website.

may i know the nearest / cheapest hotel to most of the tourist attraction in malacca??

and are there any public transports to the near beaches? and what beach are those?

  • 24. Administrator | June 21st, 2008 at 4:24 pm

    Cappy:
You may refer to the 236th comment in this post for information on suggested accommodation below RM100.

In my opinion, buses traveling to Klebang and Tanjung Kling (beach sides of Melaka) are not really convenient. There are buses, but not as frequent comparing to town areas. The fastest option is by taxi, which should only take you about 10-15 minutes from the heritage area

  • 25. leslie | July 12th, 2008 at 11:22 am
