Wanted to look for surprises and trying out new alternatives of food, my girlfriend and I went to a new shop at Melaka Raya, called Sweet Sensations (糖水屋). Literally, the Chinese version of the shop name means dessert house.

It was 9.45PM, but only a table of 4 customers was seen. I told my girlfriend “I doubt if we came to the right place to try out new menu” :p Anyway, we still gave it a try.

The interior of Sweet Sensations is filled with warm ambient lights, and decorated with Roman-style stained glass illuminators. As Christmas is approaching, seasonal decorations are seen as well. Something came into my thought: “it seems that I’ve seen this place in Jason’s blog!”

While I was browsing through the menu, an item listed in the last few pages has caught my immediate attention. “Chocolate Fondue! I saw this in Jason’s post” What a coincidence. I thought I’ve found a new place for food, but Jason was there earlier hehe.
My girlfriend and I were both feeling full in stomach, so we ordered a set of Chocolate Fondue which comes with fruits, and a piece of French Toast.

Easier to be prepared, the French Toast was served to us first. “Uuhmm… not bad.” Just nicely toasted, but a little bit oilier than my preference.
Chocolate Fondue

Next was the highlight of the meal – Chocolate Fondue. The set consisted of a plate of assorted fruits (kiwis, bananas, honey dews, watermelons, and canned pineapples), 3 scoops of ice creams, chopped peanuts, and chocolate heated on aromatherapy oil burner. The chocolate was thick.
How to eat the set? Hehe… You can dip the fruit with chocolate, top it with peanuts, and complement it with ice cream, or any other way imaginable

I like this burner, for its cute and simple design. This I never seen Chocolate Fondue using aromatherapy oil burner to heat the chocolate hehe.

Top the ice creams with chopped peanuts and chocolate for extra flavoring.

A colorful plate of assorted fruits.
Well, there’s no Haagan Daaz Chocolate Fondue in Melaka to compete with Sweet Sensations.
Good Pricing
Pricing wise, I find it reasonable. The French Toast was priced at RM4.00, and Chocolate Fondue was tagged at RM10.80. Thus, the whole meal costs us only RM14.80. Best of all, there’s no service charge and government tax.
What I’ve introduced here, are just a tip of the iceberg. There are a lot of other items on the menu, ranging from cold and hot desserts, finger snacks, to filling foods.
Later, but More People
By the time we were leaving, around 10.30PM, the shop was full of customers occupying all the tables. What a contrast comparing to 45 minutes ago hehe. Is this place an attraction for owls? *winks*
Location
The Sweet Sensations is located at the main road of Melaka Raya. It’s just a few shops of distance from Maxis centre and StarBizz Professional Make Up. Besides, the shop is just opposite Classic Wedding Castle.

Christmas celebration is approaching. Do you know that Melaka has a small but famous settlement known for its attractive Christmas atmosphere?
Some of you might have guessed it right that I’m referring to Portuguese Settlement in Melaka. The Portuguese Settlement in Melaka is a preserved land for descendents of Portuguese, situated along the coast, and accessing from Ujong Pasir.
Every year, when Christmas is around the corner, residents in Portuguese Settlement will spend some efforts decorating their houses and streets, to create Christmas ambiance within the square. In December, this is also the time when Portuguese Settlement experiences congested traffic in the evening.
In order to avoid the crowded Christmas eve, I’ve visited Portuguese Settlement on last Saturday to enjoy Christmas decorations readied for this year.

Street lightings in the settlement.

This house is generous. The family must have spent a few thousand Ringgits in the decorations and settings. The above 4 pictures are all taken within the same house. I was surprised and impressed with the air-bloated Santa Clause.
If you would like to take picture, I would advise not to go there too late. I was there at 10:30PM, and having difficulty coping with the relatively long exposure on my camera, as I wanted to capture the ambient lights.

This is the Christmas tree set-up at Portuguese Square.
Have you been to Portuguese Settlement for this coming Christmas? This coming weekend is a perfect time to visit, if you’re like me who just want to take pictures in less crowded day.

The construction of Dataran Pahlawan Megamall has unearthed a previously grounded ancient wall, belonging to Santiago Bastion fortress.
Recently, 20th of Nov 2006, the original construction site of Menara Taming Sari revolving tower, has also witnessed an unearthing of ancient fortress wall. Due to the discovery of these archeologically valuable artifacts, construction of Menara Taming Sari is called for a pause on 3rd Dec. This revolving tower project will be continued for construction at another alternative location.

Menara Taming Sari, a proposed revolving tower, is designed to serve as watch tower for tourists, to enjoy the amazing landscape of Melaka historical town. Originally, this tower was planned to be sitting opposite the Clock Tower and Stadthuys.
Currently, there are 3 suggested alternative locations for the continuation of Menara Taming Sari project.
- The tennis courts neighboring to Dataran Pahlawan Megamall and MBMB public swimming pool.
- The land next to the vacant Parameswara Jetty (close to Mahkota Hotel).
- At Pulau Melaka
In my humble opinion, the tennis courts neighboring to Dataran Pahlawan Megamall is the best alternative among all 3 suggestions mentioned above. At this location, tourists will be able to have a good bird view on the Melaka heritage town. At a slightly further extend, Straits of Melaka is skirting the town to give a breezing view. Besides, the density of tourist attractions is focused in Bandar Hilir, and thus tourists are easily accessible to the revolving tower within walking distance. In comparison to alternative location like Pulau Melaka, I doubt if visitors can have a good bird view on Melaka historical town without binocular.

I’ve visited the original construction site of Menara Taming Sari, and saw a few workers digging the ground to continue unearthing the discovered ancient wall. The task must be handled with care in order to make sure that no artifact is accidentally destroyed in the process.
