Chinese New Year Decoration 2008 at Jonker Walk
January 21st, 2008
If you’ve been to Melaka during Chinese New Year, or 3 weeks before this auspicious celebration, you have surely witnessed the appealing Chinese New Year street decoration at the Melaka Chinatown area, such as places like Jalan Hang Jebat (Jonker Street), Jalan Tun Tan Cheng Lock (Heeren Street), Jalan Hang Lekiu and Jalan Bunga Raya.
Never missed, this Chinese New Year street decoration initiative has been successfully carried out from the past 7 years (correct me if I’m wrong with the year). This year, the Melaka Chinese New Year Street Decoration 2008 was officiated by Dato Seri Ong Ka Ting on last Saturday.
Marking the first official day of the light-up, lion dance troops were invited to further condense the Chinese New Year atmosphere.
Take a look at some of the pictures I took at Jonker Walk, don’t you feel like wanted to be physically there as well?
Kudos to the Jonker Street Committee in successfully initiating another year of Chinese New Year Carnival.
Come visit Melaka this Chinese New Year to witness the condensed atmosphere.

I’m excited to have googled this site - it’s amazing and there’s lots of information regarding M’cca and its attraction - food, fiesta and fun! I can’t wait to be at Jonker Street again to jive in with the lively environment, not to mention the glorious food and treasures and trinkets to feast the eyes on. Happy Chinese New Year to all you folks! ;-p

Hi,
Can I find out from you if shops /restaurant/shopping malls are closed during the 1st few days of the CNY? Planning to visit Melaka in 2010.

Irene:
Most eating places are still open during first few days of CNY. They usually start taking a long break after the 9th day of CNY. Even though shopping mall is opening during CNY, but many outlets will be closed for the first 2 days.

Hi ,
How are you?
I have heard from my malaysian friend that there are used to be some Chinese New year Celebrations/ Festival at Jonker Street , Melaka for every year.
I have looked for all the official travel website in Melaka and Malaysia Tourism, I couldn’t find any information for the coming 2010 Event list.
I would be appreciated if you could ind out more about this and post it up on your blog or Email to me. Because I would visit Malaysia in Feb 2010 for a month and have to plan for the itenary. There are no chance to miss for the fantastic big celebrations in Malaysia, especially Melaka.
Thank you very much for your help!
